Last week we were lucky to hold two events at the annual Pisa Internet Festival. The morning event covered the topic of Industry 4.0 and the 4ZeroPlatform, while the evening event covered the implementation of Industry 4.0 strategies and technologies with the Zerynth tools.

As you can see, we handled some pretty popular topics and questions. But since we’re experts in the field of IoT and Industry 4.0, we thought it would be useful for developers and professionals to hear what we have learned so far, and what they can do with the newest technologies.

Implementation of 4.0 strategies and technologies

Companies that want to remain competitive in this constantly evolving market need to consider Industry 4.0. However, the move to Industry 4.0 scares many businesses, since they often lack the right skills to deal with the resulting technological challenges. That’s where we come in.

During the event we presented successful use cases, in which the implementation of 4.0 strategies and technologies have enabled us to:

• obtain real production data and process visibility
• reduce maintenance costs
• effectively integrate industrial data with ERP, MES and Business Intelligence software

There was also a 2-hour workshop. We used the Zerynth-powered 4ZeroPlatform, a solution that simplifies data acquisition from machinery and industrial environments, already used in industrial refrigeration applications, manufacturing industry, waste management, logistics, and smart cities.

Future perspectives of IoT

During the evening event, we covered all the recent developments in the world of IoT.

The main topics we covered were:

• difference between IoT programming platforms
• description of the IoT application development workflow: sensors, microcontrollers, firmware, device management, cloud, analytics, security
• Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence at the service of the Internet of Things

The event also included a 2-hour workshop where it was possible to experience some of the technologies made available by leading companies in the sector. Of course, we focused on programming microcontrollers in Python and Zerynth tools.

At last year’s Internet Festival we’ve hosted The Things Conference on Tour in Italy, with the main topic being “Python and LoRaWAN for IoT and Industry 4.0 applications”. So, not very far from what we talked about this year.
