Mobile technologies in healthcare with Viper
For the third year, the Bioengineering Group of the Research Center E. Piaggio (University of Pisa), the FabLab Pisa and the ABEC consortium organize an intensive course in Biomedical Engineering: this time it is focused on applications of Mobile technologies in healthcare.
The one week course will be held during the Innovators Summer School, sponsored by UNECA, at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, from 11th to 15th January.
The Summer School, at its fourth edition, is dedicated to new students in Biomedical Engineering from the 9 African Universities (6 countries involved, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Kenia) of ABEC.
The philosophy is that the Open Source design of biomedical devices and the capacity building are the foundation for improving African healthcare. In this context, the topic of the next Summer School will be the potentiality of smartphones (connectivity, visualization, sensors, storage) for creating new products or smartfy existing objects.
Thanks to the collaboration of local experts from Afmobi, students will learn how to create new apps for Android. At the end of the Summer School they will know how to connect smartphones to external sensors, exploiting potentialities of electronic rapid prototyping given by Arduino and Particle boards, developed using the VIPER suite.
Students will present their own projects as a result of the Summer School. We will be happy to share it with you. Good luck to our friends of Fablab Pisa for this new adventure!
