Zerynth Device Manager (ZDM) is a device and data management service that makes it easy to securely register, organize, monitor, and remotely manage IoT devices at scale.

Benefits of using the ZDM

  • Devices allow onboarding and provisioning which are enabled with gold-standard security practices
  • Devices have lifecycle control allowing complex tasks like remote procedure call and over the air updates (FOTA) through REST APIs
  • Data Management for storage, aggregation, and feeding of data to Zerynth’s Dashboard or any 3rd party application
  • Event management with an integrated alarm engine
  • Easy integration with third-party services and frontends, including all of the major cloud service providers

The ZDM is available as a service and on-premises.

Getting Started with the Zerynth Device Manager

Why use Zerynth Device Manager?

Device management is critical across a variety of industrial, consumer, and commercial applications. With Zerynth Device Manager, you can manage large and diverse device fleets such as operational technology systems, machines, appliances, vehicles, and more.

Industrial Applications

Zerynth Device Manager enables you to connect diverse industrial device fleets quickly and remotely manage, monitor, and troubleshoot connected devices deployed across multiple industrial sites. ZDM also allows you to monitor your devices so that you promptly detect any unusual behavior across your fleet and can take mitigating actions such as deploying a hotfix.

Consumer Applications

With Zerynth Device Manager, you can control the deployment speed of your firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) updates to consumer devices already in the field, such as smart-home accessories or domestic appliances. You can also send an update to ensure your devices are running the latest software, and you can push bug fixes or firmware updates to patch security vulnerabilities and improve device functionality.

Commercial Applications

Zerynth Device Manager makes it easy to group your devices into a hierarchical structure based on function, security requirements, or any other category for your business. You can understand the state of any connected device and perform actions across multiple devices simultaneously. You can use bulk registration to register a fleet of devices to be deployed at a new building or worksite.

How Zerynth Device Manager works

Zerynth Device Manager helps you register, organize, monitor, and remotely manage IoT devices at scale. ZDM allows the management of devices and also collects and aggregates the data produced. ZDM integrates with all primary cloud service providers allowing you to easily connect devices to the cloud and other devices so you can remotely control your fleet.

You can use Zerynth Device Manager to take mitigating actions such as pushing security fixes. You can also easily send firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) updates to your Zerynth OS powered devices, such as the latest software version or a new firmware update.

Zerynth Device Manager features

Security

The ZDM takes care of the complex and delicate provisioning phase by guaranteeing the cryptographic identity of each device, encrypting every communication using custom certificates, hardening the TLS stack, and accelerating it when supported.

Device Independence

The ZDM works with any device, thanks to its extended software base: products powered by the Zerynth OS and its related library, as well as CPU-based SBC (i.e., Raspberry Pi), computers, and software applications, included with the ZDM-Client Python library.

Data collection

The ZDM separates your devices from the data they produce. Devices can stream data and events to the ZDM. Data and Events are labeled with Tags, synchronized, stored, and sent to other services using Webhook, MQTT, REST API, and many other connectors.

Event collection

The ZDM handles data and events separately. Data are values generated by sensors connected to the device; events are notifications that the device sends to trigger specific logic functions. For example, the battery level in Volt and the “low-battery” status. The device’s events can trigger ZDM alarms that can be easily managed using the integrated console.

Device Control

The ZDM handles all the phases of a device’s lifecycle, such as executing firmware functions (i.e., device reset), contacting the device and retrieving updates on the job execution status, or making diagnostic queries on devices (i.e., running self-tests and sending reports).

FOTA update

Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) updates are a particular category of jobs that are available by default in the ZDM device library for Zerynth OS. FOTA jobs are designed to guarantee secure firmware updates (encrypted firmware, CRC check, failsafe in case of error).
