Overview
The EXP-CONNECT expansion board enables you to monitor your assets, industrial machines, or devices where WiFi and Ethernet connectivity is not available. This allows you to receive real-time notifications for critical events. You can easily add GPS and GSM (2G)/ NB-IoT capabilities to your IoT application or prototype by using this board.
The Zerynth SIM card is included with the product. It can be used with the Zerynth Device Manager Cellular plan allowing worldwide NB-IoT and 2G coverage. Zerynth SIM management is fully integrated in the Zerynth Device Manager to allow an easy and fast device setup while improving the security of your IoT architecture.
The Zerynth hardware platform supports DIN rail enclosures’ compatibility and enables development of industrial IoT applications. The development boards can be paired with several Expansion boards using DIN rail enclosures that have a width of 3, 6, 9, or 12 DIN modules.

Thanks to the Zerynth IoT Platform Scapigliato has enabled real-time monitoring of leachate wells in less than 3 months.
The problem
In the past, Scapigliato had kept their daily records of leachate levels, in landfill wells, manually. Each well would be checked, and the data was later entered into a sheet. Unfortunately, this took a lot of time to perform.
Moreover, each well is equipped with a level sensor and an extraction pump. Whenever the level exceeds a predetermined threshold, the pump automatically activates to empty the well until the level drops (below a certain level). Sometimes, because of sensor insensitivity, the pumps did not activate, or the pumps would stay on longer than necessary. These events could lead to safety issues and equipment damage.
The solution
Now, the levels are automatically recorded with a finer temporal grain. Also, Scapigliato can remotely monitor the status of the pumps, detecting failures or anomalies without having to check each individual well around the landfill.
For the solution, we used the 4ZeroBox with added GSM connectivity and the Zerynth Cloud. Thanks to cellular connectivity, Scapigliato is able to monitor all 20 wells without WiFi connectivity. Additionally, no data is lost – it is stored both on-edge and on permanent cloud storage.
